Bengali movie Bonpalashir Padabali, starring Uttam Kumar, Supriya Devi, Bikash Roy, Jahar Roy, Basabi Nandy, Anil Chatterjee, Ardhendu Mukherjee, Bhanu Banerjee, Bidya Rao, Nirmal Kumar, Subrata Chatterjee, Tarun Kumar, Kalipada Chakrabarti was released in 1973. The movie is directed by Uttam Kumar and produced under the banner Shilpi Sangsad. Nachiketa Ghosh scored the music in the movie.

Story: This is a tragic tale about a handful of characters of the village of Bonpalashi. An aspiring driver Udash (Uttam Kumar) accidentally marries Laxmi (Basabi Nandi), a cynical woman who constantly troubles Udash & his father (Kalipada Chakrabarti) throughout the day. After marrying, Udash gets the licence and becomes a bus driver, but his life goes wayward in association with the bungled Laxmi. At this point comes in Padma (Supriya Devi), the daugher of Udash’s father’s friend, with whom previously he was destined to get married. Udash falls in love with her. When Laxmi gets to know about this she gets mad with rage and kills Padma’s father. Then she commits suicide. Udash was on duty when all these mishaps occured. After Laxmi’s demise Udash wants to marry Padma, but the lady refuses him out of social fear even though she loves him. When Udash tries to force Padma she abandons him and takes refuge in Dr. Roy (Anil Chatterjee). Udash turns into an alcoholic and becomes obsessed in Padma’s love. When he hears a baseless and incorrect news that Padma is having an affair with the doctor, he comes to murder the doctor with a knife. But the doctor was not at home. In the darkness and under the influence of liquor Udash stabs Padma by mistake and the court of law sentences him to death.
